Statins and Memory Loss: The Australian Perspective

Whether the use of statins impacts memory loss and cognitive function remains controversial. Using Australian data, this research study found no evidence of significant differences in adverse event reports involving memory-related adverse events between statins and other cholesterol-lowering agents.

CASE STUDY

Scombroid fish poisoning illness and coronary artery vasospasm

This case provides new literature to support the capacity of scombroid fish poisoning illness to induce coronary artery vasospasm mediated by histamine. This is a rarely reported association; nevertheless, clinicians should be aware of this when assessing and treating patients with the fish poisoning illness because of its potential fatality.

Giant sigmoid diverticulum: A case report

Giant sigmoid diverticulum (GSD) is a very rare condition with only 180 published cases. This case study is the first published case of GSD where nocturnal diarrhoea was the differentiating symptom. Approximately two per cent of  GSD patients have a colonic cancer either within or distal to the diverticulum, which may change the treatment offered.
