Ophthalmology has been actively pursued in Australia and New Zealand with peripatetic surgeons working in both the countries in earlier days. Medical congresses that were conducted also helped in the development of strong links within the Australasian region. Ophthalmologists in both the countries have endeavored for the formation of Royal Australian College of Surgeons as early as 1927
