Bowel Symptoms in Community Pharmacies.

The symptomatic profiles of people who present with anorectal symptoms to community pharmacies in Western Australia suggest that there are a significant proportion of pharmacy clients who may benefit from medical consultation to rule out underlying conditions such as colorectal cancer. Responses from participants also suggest that the questionnaire model for obtaining symptomatic information from clients is a useful and acceptable intervention in a community pharmacy setting.

EDITORIAL

The Student Advisory Board

The AMJ aims to publish early findings of student projects and help to “match make” between expert supervisors and students so early career researchers can gain insights and expert review of their work that may improve not only the quality of their projects, but also their skills as researchers and writers. Editorials written by members of the student advisory board will be published regularly to air the 'student voice', to inform readers of the student perspective on research, and to connect with the student readership.

BRIEF REPORT

Pathogens and Public Swimming Pools

Swimming pools are increasingly recognised as an important transmission route of cryptosporidiosis. Swimmers are infected through ingestion of waterborne faecal matter. The infective oocycts resulting from one Accidental Faecal Release (AFR) may be prolific. A swimmer swallowing just 10 ml of water would ingest an average of 200 oocysts, which is well above the dose capable of causing infection.
